Frequently Asked Questions

What makes BombProof different to other off-site data storage programs?
Your data is not stored on the Internet but in different locations around the UK away from Internet connections.

What should I BombProof?
You should BombProof anything that is of value to you; accounts, databases, emails, photographs, homework ... anything! If its important to you then you must protect it. If the thought of losing your entire digital library of documents, pictures, music and vidoes does not give you a cold shudder then you do not need BombProof.

How do I use BombProof?
Simply install the BombProof software and the inbuilt Wizard will take you step by step through the program.

How can I make sure I am not BombProofing things I don't need?
Check which folders you are BombProofing carefully - BombProof can optionally include all sub-folders so make sure you don't have unwanted data in subfolders. You can use the Files To Ignore function to exclude files based on your choices.

How do I know BombProof has protected my files?
Click on the Log Viewer (clipboard icon) and read the daily logs. Alternatively, you can opt to receive a daily email report concerning the last BombProof (option found in Preferences).

How quickly will I fill my archive?
BombProof has various archive sizes to cater to different levels of customer needs. The average home is not likely to need more than a 1Gb archive.  This will not necessarily be full but will allow the user to keep adding files for some time without changing price band, payments etc. This is the same for both 10Gb and 30Gb archives - a company's compressed data may only be 5Gb at the beginning of using BombProof, but over time this will increase and having that extra room in your archive means you do not have to keep adjusting payments, invoices etc. Usually users stay with the same archive they started with and do not need to move to the next size level at all. If an account does exceed it's size limit then you will be contacted by BombProof to discuss what you would like to do - either delete old items or move to the next level.

Does running BombProof compromise my security?
Everything BombProof does is with the compliance of the Windows operating system and makes no changes to the local security policy at all. All transfers use standard ports and no 'security holes' are created or used. All connections are from you to us and never the other way around therefore your security is maintained at all times.

How do I know how big my BombProof archive is?
The current size of your archive is shown on the optional daily report.

How long does BombProof take to protect my data?
The initial transfer to BombProof could be quite large. This will be automatically split into multiple sessions with approximately 1.5Gb transferred per session. You can perform additional sessions up to the capacity of your internet connection to make the initial transfer as quick as possible. Most BombProof customers report that the initial transfer takes between one and three days. After the nitial transfer has taken place only changed data is BombProofed therefore the amounts transferred are far less and the transfer quicker. An average BombProof transfer takes less than 10 minutes.

What type of Internet connection do I need?
Any type of connection can be used but remember the faster the connection the quicker BombProof will operate.

How much will it cost?
Click here to see prices, remember the average company archive is less than 10Gb and the average individuals archive is less than 1Gb.

What happens to my data if I am late with a payment?
All monthly invoices are due before the start of the month stated on the invoice. If an invoice is still outstanding when the next invoice is due your account will be frozen and your data will remain until we are advised by you. Please refer to our terms and conditions (link below).

How much will my data compress?
Average compression rates are 50% - 80% so for example 3Gb of data would normally compress to less than 1Gb. Obviously, if the data is already compressed as in .zip or .jpg files then the compression achieved will be less. A less than 50% compression rate would be very, very rare.

What should I do if I do not get my regular email report one day?
First check the BombProof log, if the BombProof log states that a BombProof occurred then your data has been protected.  Occasionally an email does go astray and a quick call to BombProof will get a replacement sent to you.

Does BombProof run on a Mac™?
BombProof needs a Windows™ environment but can protect Mac™ files stored in a shared data area.
